New seven-minute briefing: Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court

The Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court can be used in rare and exceptional circumstances to help protect adults who have mental capacity but remain vulnerable to coercion, undue influence, or other forms of risk. It is often considered a legal option of ‘last resort’, it may be appropriate where there is serious concern for an adult's safety and other legal frameworks cannot be applied.

Developed jointly by Norfolk Safeguarding Adults Board and Suffolk Safeguarding Adults Board, this seven-minute briefing explains the key principles of the Inherent Jurisdiction and includes practical examples of how it has been used in safeguarding practice.
