Muckamore Abbey Hospital Inquiry Report Published (18 June 2026)

On Thursday 18th June, the Muckamore Abbey Hospital (MAH) Inquiry published its final report. The Inquiry was established under the Inquiries Act 2005, to examine the issue of abuse of patients at MAH and to determine why the abuse happened and the range of circumstances that allowed it to happen. The purpose of the Inquiry is to ensure that such abuse does not occur again at MAH or any other institution in Northern Ireland which provides similar services.

The Muckamore Abbey Hospital Public Inquiry highlights how abuse and poor care can occur when safeguarding, governance, oversight and organisational culture fail to protect vulnerable people. The learning is relevant to all agencies within the Suffolk Safeguarding Partnership, reinforcing the need for effective partnership working, professional challenge, listening to lived experience and maintaining a relentless focus on safeguarding and quality of care.
